چکیده

T HE APPARENTLY HIGH FREQUENCY of polycythemia vera among Jews has been first systematically approached by Reznikoff et al.’ and subsequently confirmed by Damon and Holub2 and by one of us.3 It seemed therefore of interest to find out whether this excessive risk is present in Jews outside the U.S.A. and among all Jewish ethnic subgroups. The following report provides an attempt to answer both questions through a whole community study in Israel.

A Pilot Study of FDG-PET/CT in Polycythemia Vera Using Global Analysis Techniques

Objective(s): Functional imaging presents a non-invasive process that may capture the hyper-metabolic nature of red bone marrow in myeloproliferative neoplasms, such as polycythemia vera (PV). Methods: This study analyzed the FDG-PET/CT scans (n=12) of six patients diagnosed with PV and six age-sex matched controls using a quantitative global analysis methodol...

ارزیابی میزان جهش JAK2V617F در بیماران میلو پرولیفراتیو مزمن به روش AS-RT-PCR

Background and Aim: The JAK2 is an acquired mutation that is observed in majority of patients with classical Philadelphia-negative Myeloproliferative neoplasms that include polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET), primary myelofibrosis (PMF). This acquired mutation is characterized by a G to T transversion at nucleotide 1849 in exon 12 of the JAK2 gene, leading to a substitution ...

Polycythemia vera is a chronic progressive myeloproliferative disease characterized by increased circulating red blood cells, and the hyperviscosity of the blood can lead to an increased risk of arterial thrombosis. In a previous survey regarding postoperative outcomes in polycythemia vera patients, an increased risk of both vascular occlusive and hemorrhagic complications have been reported. A...

Therapeutic Challenges in the Management of Acute Myocardial Infarction in Polycythemia Vera

Polycythemia rubra vera (PV) is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by elevated red cell mass with an increased risk of both thrombosis and bleeding. Thromboembolic events are the most significant and life-threatening complications associated with PV [1]. Here, we report a rare case of PV presenting as acute myocardial infarction (MI) and briefly discuss the applicability of cur...
